Buzz Williams is a good coach and one day he will have Virginia Tech competitive, but it didn’t take a good coach to look at Florida State’s stat line and decide to pack it into the lane and dare the Seminoles to shoot jumpers. The fact is, FSU is second-to-last in three-point shooting percentage.
Only one problem…Florida State picked the right night to hit a season high eight threes and never trailed.
Three players scored in double figures for FSU. Rathan-Mayes had 12 points with 11 assists, Devon Bookert was perfect from deep (3-3), finishing with 10, while Montay Brandon led all scorers with 16.
Yet, despite the success from deep, the Hokies refused to go away until about midway through the second half. Of course, the Seminoles 20 turnovers might have played a part in that.
Virginia Tech was short-handed, down to nine players and struggled to get easy shots in the lane, as the Seminoles blocked nine of the Hokies’ shots. Adam Smith and Ahmed Hill each scored 19.
