All because you didn’t get invited to the Big Dance, it doesn’t mean you have to pack your bags and go home. A pair of ACC teams will continue their season thanks to the National Invitation Tournament.
The Miami Hurricanes, who finished 7th in the ACC at 10-8, will host North Carolina Central. The Eagles went undefeated in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, but were upset by Delaware St. in their conference tournament, which just goes to show you how stupid this system is.
Pittsburgh will also keep playing, as they host George Washington out of the A10. The Colonials were 16-4 at one point, but collapsed at the end, finishing the season 5-13.
The Clemson Tigers, who made it to the semifinals last year in the NIT, failed to get an invite back this season, although they did receive other offers, ultimately turning them down.
From the Greenville Online:
Fifth-year coach Brad Brownell met with athletic department officials on Friday and they mutually agreed “not to pursue any postseason berths beyond the NIT,” according to a department spokesperson.
It was also reported that Florida State rejected the CBI, but rumor has it just about everybody and their mothers did as well
Does the CBI just fold up the tents? Everyone is declining: Mich, Penn St, Minn, FSU, So Car, Ore St, Cal, Memph. Will be very weak field.
