Tough Wednesday night for ACC basketball teams. NC State lost 82-72 in overtime to North Carolina Central. It wasn't a complete surprise, the Eagles are a decent team this year, but it still hurts. Central had complete control of the game throughout and despite going into OT it never felt like NC State had a chance. Needless to say doom and gloom has arrived early in Raleigh.
Georgia Tech also lost on Wednesday night. The Yellow Jackets lost to Dayton 82-72 (same score as in Raleigh, weird) and while Dayton is a better team than NCCU, it still hurts. Georgia Tech was a team that I hoped would take a step forward this season, but they have to win these games to do that in my mind. Of course, step one is curing the turnover bug. To add injury to insult Travis Jorgenson hurt his knee and will have a MRI today although it doesn't sound good.
Pitt was the lone successful ACC team as they defeated Lehigh 77-58.
Five ACC teams in action tonight with several starting holiday tournaments. FSU and VCU is likely the marquee matchup of the night, but keep an eye on Boston College and Connecticut. I know BC has started off slow (Ok, slower than slow), but the Eagles are talented and I give them a chance in this rivalry game. Check out today's links, previews, and more below.
