Game Recap

Miami 80 San Diego 45

Box Score

Miami used a balanced scoring attack with 8 players scoring 5 points or more and no player playing more than Jack McClinton's 27 minutes.

Frank Haith was pleased with his team's defensive performance...

"Defensively, I thought we were outstanding in the second half," Haith said. "It was good to see production out of a lot of guys."

Haith and Miami leave with a somewhat disappointing performance after losing to #2 Connecticut on Sunday.  Until the Canes step up and win a big game out of the conference they will still be a second-rate ACC team.

UCONN won the Paradise Jam yesterday beating #19 Wisconsin.

Wake Forest 62 WSSU 31

Enhanced Live Box Score

Wake dominated Winston-Salem State in every facet of the game, but didn't live up to the standards they had set in their first two games.  The 62 points were just over half of what they scored in their win over UNCW in their season opener.

Jeff Teague led the way with 14 points and 6 assists, but also finished with 5 of the team's 23 turnovers.

The good news for Wake is that Ishmael Smith returned to play 11 minutes dishing out 2 assists, but did not score.

Factor of the Game

Wake held WSSU to one field goal for nearly 15 minutes in the 2nd half, while at the same time taking care of the ball.  Wake had 18 first-half turnovers, with turnovers in over half of their possessions.  In the 2nd half, Wake took care of the ball and saw their lead grow.

FSU 67 Western Illinois 55

Enhanced Live Box Score

FSU led by as many as 24 points with 14 minutes remaining, but  Western Illinois went on a 20-4 run and trimmed the lead to as close as 8 points in the 2nd half.

Uche Echefu and Soloman Alabi led FSU with 12 points a piece and Chris Singleton also added double-digits with 10 points.

Factor of the Game

FSU's defense was stout despite the second half run by Western Illinois.  FSU forced their opponent into tough shots allowing just 9 layups and dunks with Western Illinois making just 3.  On the other hand, FSU made 11-17 dunks and layups.
