Game Recap

Now, the Cards turn their full attention to Indiana.

The primary concern for Louisville heading into Wednesday night’s game against an overmatched Central Arkansas team was the the Cards might be flying a little too high after their big wins over Michigan State and Seton Hall last week.

U of L put to bed any worries about a letdown right away, racing out to a 10-2 lead and never looking back. When the dust settled, Louisville had rolled to an 86-41 victory, easily the most lopsided defeat for Central Arkansas to date.

Steven Enoch was the tone-setter for the Cards, scoring U of L’s first 10 points and finishing with a career-high 16. Enoch also snagged a team-high nine rebounds. Jordan Nwora led all scorers with 21 points, going 7 of 10 from the field and canning all four of his three-point attempts.

Perhaps the most encouraging performance of the evening came from V.J. King. the enigmatic junior attacked the rim with a ferociousness Cardinal fans hope to see throughout the rest of the season. He finished 8-of-10 from the field, scoring a season-high 17 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists.

Defensively, Louisville held UCA to just 16 of 64 (25.0%) shooting from the field, and didn’t allow a single Bear to score in double figures.

Good teams should beat teams like Central Arkansas by decent margins. Louisville is a good team, and it beat Central Arkansas by 26 more points than Ken Pomeroy’s model had projected. That’s not worth the mass euphoria that the last two wins evoked, but it’s still something to be happy about.

Obviously, there’s another big one coming in three days. Assembly Hall is one of the toughest places in America to play when the opponent justifies the madness, and Louisville will certainly fit that bill on Saturday.
