Game Recap

While Wake Forest isn’t the most formidable opponent and the Seminoles did have a healthy dose of their typical issues on the hardwood today, FSU was able to pull off another ACC victory on the road by defeating the Demon Deacons 84-66. The win marks Florida State’s 9th conference win of the season. The ‘Noles were able to overcome an extremely slow start in which they shot 4-15 from the field and play what was ultimately a sound game overall despite 12 team turnovers.

One of the big questions that the Seminoles would have to answer starting today was how they will deal with not having their leader Chris Singleton, who is out indefinitely with a foot fracture. FSU got big performances out of Bernard James, Ian Miller, Deividas Dulkys and Okaro White in particular. All four players scored in double digits, combining for 56 points total. Although FSU struggled shooting from long range, they were far more consistent at the free throw line today than they have been at times throughout the season, shooting 28-35 from the stripe.

The next game on slate for the Seminoles is on the road at Maryland on Wednesday. The Maryland match up will be huge for tournament considerations as well as the conference race where FSU still sits firmly in 3rd place after today’s win and Virginia Tech’s loss. A victory against Maryland on Wednesday would mark the third straight 10 conference win season for the Seminoles and in the eyes of many would all but solidify an NCAA tournament bid for Florida State. If FSU can continue to expect solid production from players like Ian Miller and Bernard James or get more consistency out of Michael Snaer and Derwin Kitchen, Florida State may be able to secure a few more victories going into March.
