The basketball program has a new member.
Donovan Mitchell, a 6'8" forward out of California, verbally committed to Wake Forest today while on his official visit. To the best of my knowledge, this new was first reported by Michael Jennings of 247 Sports. Mitchell is a three-star recruit, and Rivals currently ranks him as the 148th best player in the 2016 recruiting class.

Mitchell's biggest strength as a player is his versatility. At 6'8", he can play either wing position, as well as some power forward. He plays some point guard at the high school level, but will not do that at the collegiate level. However, he absolutely has the capabilities of leading and finishing a fast break.

He has a good jumper, and can also slash. Wake's roster in 2016 will not lack shooters, and Mitchell's slashing will be much-needed. Manning has stressed that he wants versatile players, and that's exactly what Donovan Mitchell brings. He can step out, and create more room for others to operate. This is where offenses are trending, at least in the NBA, and it's encouraging that Manning has that vision for the program. This is a commitment that means upside, and he is a very intriguing prospect.

Mitchell is the third member of Wake Forest's 2016 recruiting class. He joins point guard Brandon Childress, and shooting guard Richard Washington. Harry Giles, Wake Forest's top target, is set to take an official visit to Wake Forest next weekend.
