The Wake Forest football program is loading up on defensive players in the 2017 recruiting class, and that class got even stronger on Monday evening. Jeffery Burley, a 2017 linebacker out of Georgia, has verbally committed to Wake Forest University. He is a 3-star on 247 Sports, and chose Wake Forest over Louisville, Mississippi State, North Carolina State, Minnesota, Illinois, and others.

Burley is listed at 6’2”, 210 pounds, and is very athletic. He joins a recruiting class that also features linebackers D.J. Taylor, Jamal Riggins, and Jake Simpson. This group is physical and athletic, and should continue the tradition of excellent linebacker play at Wake.
Cleark Lea has done at extraordinary job of recruiting linebackers since he took over as linebackers coach earlier this year. John Hunter, running backs coach at Wake Forest, was also instrumental in the recruitment of Burley.
This is a very nice addition to the class, and I am excited about the speed that the staff is adding to the defense. With so many offenses going towards the spread and more up-tempo offenses, defenses need linebackers who are capable of stopping the passing attack.
Wake’s recruiting class is now ranked 49th nationally.
