Monday night had two really competitive games with one ACC team coming out on top, and the other failing to win in a tough road environment.
Georgia Tech and Tennessee were involved in a game of runs. Tennessee opened the second half on a 12-4 run, Georgia Tech answered with a 14-2 run of their own, and the Yellow Jackets held on to win 69-67 despite some poor execution late. Nick Jacobs was the start for Brian Gregory's team finishing with 23 points and 9 rebounds.
Virginia went to George Washington and from the tip you knew GW was ready to play. Tyler Cavanaugh, who previously played for Wake Forest, was the star for GW scoring 18 points to lead the way. Virginia's offense wasn't efficient or consistent enough throughout to match GW. The Wahoos were to content to takeo open jumpers without running their offense and they suffered as a result. Malcolm Brogdon did all he could scoring 28 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, and dishing out 4 assists, but it wasn't enough as Virginia loses 73-68 to GW.
Miami also picked up a relatively easy win over Louisiana Lafayette on the night.
Tonight, we have six ACC teams in action highlighted by Duke taking on Kentucky in the Champions Classic. The Blue Devils will have their hands full with a loaded UK roster tonight. One thing to watch is how the young Duke perimeter matches up with the the physicality of Kentucky. This should be a fun one to watch and should reveal quite a bit about who this Duke team really is.
