If Duke and Virginia can teach UNC something this weekend, its that an early loss is a great learning tool The #1 Heels hopefully learned a lesson at Northern Iowa on Saturday as UNI made 11 3's and the Paige-less Heels went down.
After recent losses, both Virginia and Duke bounced back nicely in exempt tournament play. Duke got two 30+ point totals from Grayson Allen on Friday and Sunday to drop VCU and Georgetown. The Blue Devils were down early in both, but Allen's scoring prowess led the way to a comeback and a 2K Sports Classic Title. Virginia bounced back from an early loss to George Washington, and won the Charleston Classic quite easily. Virginia was never challenged as they beat Bradley, Long Beach State, and George Mason by an average of 25 points per game.
Miami was the 3rd ACC team on Sunday to win a championship, and likely the most impressive. The Canes won the Puerto Rico Tipoff Title by beating Mississippi State, Utah, and Butler by an average of 23 points per game. Both Utah and Butler were ranked in the AP Top 25, so expect Miami to be ranked this week.
On the other end of the spectrum, FSU and Georgia Tech laid eggs this weekend. The Seminoles dropped a game to Hofstra while Georgia Tech saw East Tennessee State hit a game-winning 3 on Sunday afternoon.
