Miami moved to 3-0 with a Sunday night win over Maryland. The game was a hard watch, especially in the 1st half which saw neither team reach 20 points. The second half picked up a bit, but it was still far from well played. Miami's 3-0 start is impressive considering Reggie Johnson's absence, but perhaps it took Johnson's injury to help identify what this team does well?
As Jason (I don't call him Jay) Williams pointed out on the broadcast, its Kenny Kadji that is Miami's best pro prospect. Kadji has to be the focus on of the offense, and maybe that wasn't clear early in the season. College teams simply don't have players that can guard Kadji, who has the ability to knock down 3's (making him a pick & pop nightmare), drive to the basket, and post up smaller players.
While the Hurricanes miss Johnson's scoring potential down low, Julian Gamble has been fantastic. Gamble is exactly what you would want in a player filling in for Johnson. He has experience, he's a good post defender and rebounder, and he is a low maintenance player. He doesn't need touches to create energy.
On the other side of last night's game, Maryland fans are asking what happened to the Terps in Miami?
