B1G 6, ACC 2. In other words, calling this a "Challenge" seems fitting.
It wasn't just that the ACC went 2-4 on Tuesday night, its how they they did it.
- Wake Forest lost at home to Minnesota by 15 points. The Deacs just couldn't stop Minnesota from making 3's, The Gophers made 12-24 from long range, which was 5 more made 3's than Wake Forest. Fittingly, those 15 points were the difference in the game.
- Pitt had a tough matchup playing Indiana in Assembly Hall, but Jamie Dixon's team has to play better defensively. Indiana posted an offensive efficiency of 130 on the night.
- Syracuse had two chances in the final minute to take the lead, but turned it over on both occasions. The two freshmen were responsible for the turnovers, which reminds me how darn good Tyler Ennis was last year.
- NC State lost by 5, in large part due to their struggles from the free throw line in the 2nd half. After making 10-11 from the charity stripe in the 1st half, the Pack made just 2-8 in the second.
The good news is Louisville and Miami were impressive early, and both managed to hang on late. If one thing is clear, the top of the conference is strong, but there is a great divide between the top and bottom of the conference this season. It will be critical for teams in the second tier to pickup non-conference wins though, because a 10 or 11 win conference season will mean nothing if it based on wins from bottom or the barrel. For example, Notre Dame could really use a win over Michigan State tonight if they want to any chance at a NCAA tourney bid.
More strong matchups tonight including the marquee game of the Challenge, Duke playing at Wisconsin. Check out previews, links, and more below.
