Well, that didn't turn out as expected. The ACC lost the 2016 ACC/B1G Challenge 8-6, after going 2-4 on Wednesday night. The top of the conference took care of business for the league with Duke, UNC, and Virginia all claiming victories. It was the rest of the league that seemingly didn't pull their weight.
Back to Wednesday night, where Louisville had control for most of the game against Michigan State, but the Spartans figured out the Louisville defense at the right time. Michigan State had a key 15-5 run which saw Louisville's 3 point lead turn into a 7 point deficit in the final minutes. Chinanu Onuaku's foul trouble seemed to really hurt the Cardinals. Onauku was a big contributor on the defensive end (as he has been all season), and didn't play down the stretch as Michigan State made their comeback. Michigan State ended up winning 71-67.
In the other marquee game of the night, Duke topped Indiana 94-74 in a game that had a little of everything. It was the Brandon Ingram show early on, as Ingram had 16 points in just 12 minutes of action in the first half. Only foul trouble could slow him down. In the second half, Duke dominated the glass and cut down Indiana's backdoor opportunities. Matt Jones scored a career high 23 points and Ingram finished with 24 to lead the Blue Devils. At halftime there was a bizarre incident where an Indiana player bumped Coach K. That led to a discussion between K and Tom Crean at halftime before heading to the locker room. Cooler heads prevailed and K downplayed the incident after the game, but it does make you wonder if it had anything to do with K leaving his starters in late.
FSU and Syracuse each lost in OT on Wednesday night, which meant there were 4 overtime games during the challenge, and the ACC went 1-3 in those games. It goes to show how things could've swung to the ACC if a few things would've gone the other way.
