The ACC opened up night one of the ACC/B1G Challenge going 4-2 with the only ACC losses coming from FSU and Notre Dame. Duke played their best defensive game of the season in handling Michigan 79-69. Georgia Tech came back and stole one from Illinois 67-64. Syracuse went on a run in the second half and disposed of Indiana by 17. Pitt got a scare from Penn State but managed to squeak out a 78-69 victory.
A couple notes from night one...
- It seems like Duke plays as well as Quinn Cook does. Andre Dawkins came in and got buckets once again, but interestingly enough Rasheed Sulaimon was a healthy DNP.
- Notre Dame and Iowa put up some points. The two teams combined for 191 points in regulation. Remember those 50-48 games we were getting in college basketball last year?
- Like most freshman Tyler Ennis has had an up-and-down start to his career, but Ennis was in complete control for the Orange last night.
- Georgia Tech is a sneaky good team, but their shot selection leaves a little to be desired at times.
- Similarly, FSU is really talented, but you're not going to win games being careless with the ball. The Noles had a turnover % of nearly 30 in their loss at Minnesota.
- FSU and Minnesota got the late start time on Tuesday night, they also go the really late finish. The two teams combined to foul 52 times on a night when one of our writers, @WillsWorldMN, decided to go to the game. Will is likely sleeping in this morning.
- I'm not sure what to make of Pitt at the moment. Our SCACC Power 25 BETA rankings had them as high as #6, although they dropped to #10 after last night's performance. Was Pitt's early success at the expense of a weak schedule or was last night's close win over Penn State just an aberration?
Tonight, we have six more games in the ACC/B1G Challenge. Wake Forest is also in action taking on Tulane. Check out the Game Sim predictions below and the Game Previews at the bottom.
