Wednesday night didn't go as expected. After going 4-2 on Tuesday night, the ACC went 2-4 and one of those two wins was UNC beating #1 Michigan State in the Breslin center. More on the Heels in the moment though. NC State picked up the only other victory of the night, while Virginia, Miami, Maryland, and Boston College all picked up really ugly losses.
Let's focus on the positives though and UNC's win over Michigan State. UNC earned the victory with defense and rebounding, two traits that defined Michigan State basketball for some time. Kennedy Meeks stood out, leading the Heels with 15 points and adding 7 rebounds in only 18 minutes of action. It wasn't the Marcus Paige show this time either, the Heels brought a balanced scoring attack with five players in double-figures. So, UNC has lost to UAB and Belmont and beat Louisville and Michigan State...
Let's run down a few notes from the other games last night...
- It looked like for a while TJ Warren might outscore Virginia and threatened Miami's effort as well. Warren had 16 points at the half which is more than the 13 that Miami managed to score in their first 20 minutes. Virginia ended up with just 38 points, while Miami finished with 49. Warren sat for large portions of the second half and finished with 22.
- Some guy named Sam Thompson blew up twitter and Maryland last night. Here's why.
- Struggling to say something about BC, since I know they played and I haven't really mentioned them yet. They were awful on defense, so pretty much status quo for this season for the Eagles.
No basketball action tonight in the ACC, but check out the NCAA Scoreboard for today's national games.
