You can learn a lot about a person when they go through adversity, and I guess the same can be said about a basketball team. North Carolina faced adversity on Monday night in Tallahassee and the Heels came out victorious. Reigning ACC player of the week, James Michael McAdoo played just 13 minutes before fouling out and didn't score. With McAdoo in foul trouble and Paige struggling, UNC found themselves down 21-6 well into the first half. Earlier in the season that might have crippled the North Carolina offense. On Monday night, UNC found a way to win.
Kennedy Meeks and Brice Johnson carried the load early with McAdoo in foul trouble and Paige struggling. At one point in the game, Meeks and Johnson had combined to score 35 of UNC's 49 points. They would score only 2 more points the rest of the game as Meeks finished with 23 points and Johnson with 14 points. Marcus Paige seemingly took over the game the rest of the way. Paige finished with 20 points and 7 assists, but 16 points and 5 assists came in the second half. Combine that with 3 steals and 0 turnovers and you had a special game from a special player. With the win, UNC moves to 8-4 in conference play.
The Seminoles needed every conference win they could get the rest of the way to maintain a hope of a NCAA tourney bid. Giving one away at home like they did on Monday has to sting. FSU drops to 6-8 in conference play.
