Former Maryland Terrapin Alex Len had surgery to stabilize a partial stress fracture in his left ankle. The 7-1 center will be sidelined for 4-6 months, so that means no pre-draft activities for the big fella.
Len was expected to be a lottery pick, potentially the highest drafted Terrapin since Chris Wilcox (8th pick, 2002).
Will this hurt him? It certainly won’t help. Call it the Greg Oden effect. General managers are frightened by brittle centers. However, since Len doesn’t have a history of injury problems, something tells me the worst case scenario is Len doesn’t get taken with picks 7-8, but falls to nine or ten. Not tragic.
