We know you’ve missed, and it’s back! It’s articles from around the ACC Blogosphere. Right now were in the middle of the College Baseball Tournament where Virginia, departing ACC member Maryland and incoming ACC program Louisville are still alive. What else are the ACC bloggers writing about?
Virginia blog StreakingtheLawn is pumped about the Hoos advancing the Super Regionals. Virginia played the best baseball of any team in the country during the first week of the College Baseball Tournament. I’m telling you, if they can get to Omaha where it’s a pitchers park, they have a great shot to win it all with that strong rotation they have.
Maryland is more Big 10 than ACC these days, but only the most cynical sport’s fan can’t appreciate a truly inspired effort. Maryland hadn’t won NCAA tournament game since 1970, and they went on the road to sweep the Columbia, SC region that included one of the premier baseball programs in the country in South Carolina. Terrapin blog TestudoTimes is just enjoying the ride. By the way, there are two schools I root against in just about everything. That’s the Georgia Bulldogs and South Carolina Gamecocks, so I was glad to see the Gamecocks eliminated. If the Terps win the CWS for the ACC’s first title since 1955, it still counts.
Louisville has advanced to the Super Regionals. The blog CardChronicle recaps Louisville’s run through the regional. The Cardinals have a great shot to advance to Omaha as they will face upstart Kennesaw St. in the round of 16. Louisville has such a well rounded athletics program. They are going to be a great fit for the ACC. They also joined Virginia and Maryland in finishing off SEC foes. Outgoing, current, and incoming ACC members went 3-0 in regional finals Sunday against the SEC. Unfortunately if Louisville wins the CWS the ACC can’t claim the title to end the streak, but we definitely wish Louisville the best of luck.
Clemson blog ShakintheSouthland doesn’t mince words, Tiger skipper Jack Leggett should be fired. Honestly I have to agree. Clemson should be one of the strongest baseball teams year in and year out in the ACC. He’s done nothing of note at Clemson since their 2010 CWS appearance. There have 0 Omaha appearances, 0 ACC Titles, and 0 Super Regional appearances the last 4 years. That’s not good enough at Clemson.
Here is a realistic look at the Virginia Tech Hokies football team from Gobbler Country. I really don’t think there’s a quick fix here for the Hokies, to get back to where they were 3-4 years ago. They’ve got got a number of positions they need complete overhauling. The good thing is there’s defensive talent, and Bud Foster there to keep Virginia Tech in most games.
Pittsburgh blog CardiacHill says the ACC’s new logo looks awfully familiar. Those guys are right. I’ll be honest. I don’t really care for it myself.
Below was one of my favorite takes on the new logo from sportswriter Joe Ovies
