Virginia
No football team in the ACC has sunk lower the last few than the Virginia Cavaliers. This will be tough for Virginia fans to hear, but the Hoos are the worst football program in the ACC. Last season Virginia lost their last 7 games, and as the season continued the team got worse. Bronco Mendenhall was a proven winner at BYU. He’s a very good coach, but his 2-10 first season proves how much work he has to do rebuild the Virginia football program.
Will Go 6-6 (3-5) if:
The Hoos start the year 3-0. With William & Mary, Indiana, and Connecticut to open the season, the Hoos have an opportunity to get 3 early wins. Then they have to hold on for dear life. Duke and Boston College are and decent possibilities for wins 4 and 5. They have to steal 1 more game somewhere. For this to happen Virginia has to have some semblance of a running game. They were last in the ACC in rushing, and their lack of balance made the Hoos really predictable on offense. QB Kurt Benkert played hurt last year, and has to be better. He should be too if he is healthy.
If the offense improves, a bowl game is not out of the question.
Will Go 3-9 (1-7) if:
Virginia doesn’t have 4 wins by October 21st. The manageable part of the schedule is early. If the Hoos can’t take advantage then where do you see more than 1 possible win with a finish of Pitt, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Miami, and Virginia Tech. Micah Kiser and Quin Blanding are future NFL pros on defense, but they need help. The defense still ranked 93rd in the country. The offense ranked even worse at 112. If Virginia is anywhere near those numbers again, it will be a long season for the Hoos.
