Did Travis Etienne just become the Heisman frontrunner?

Did Travis Etienne just become the Heisman frontrunner?

I’m going to make this simple:

Yes, Clemson’s Travis Etienne did become the Heisman frontrunner on Saturday night against the Miami Hurricanes. Etienne was clearly the best player on the field when Clemson had the ball. He is carrying Clemson’s offense. Trevor Lawrence looks very good, but Etienne was continuously asked to produce for an offense whose receivers have not yet settled into the flow of the season, or the Tigers’ overall operations. Etienne delivered the goods every time with his mixture of speed, toughness and experience.

With Florida losing to Texas A&M, the Heisman candidacy of star tight end Kyle Pitts took a significant hit. We obviously know that the Heisman candidacies of star Big 12 quarterbacks Spencer Rattler of Oklahoma and Sam Ehlinger of Texas are already done and dusted — those candidacies are finished already.

So yes: Etienne is the frontrunner.

That’s not the hard part here.

The hard part is that the Big Ten hasn’t started its season, with Justin Fields waiting to put up insane numbers.

Yes: Travis Etienne is the frontrunner… and right now, that doesn’t mean a whole lot.

The final scheduled game of this regular season is December 19. Check back here after Thanksgiving weekend and see where the race stands. It’s very early out here.
