Last week news broke that UNC's associate head coach for defense Vic Koenning would not return for a fourth season in Chapel Hill. Tar Heel head coach Larry Fedora addressed that personnel decision for the first time in his Monday press conference. Here is a quick "tweetcap" of Fedora addressing the change.
Fedora and Koenning met last week and decision was made for VK to pursue other jobs. Will not coach in the bowl game.

Fedora termed it as a "mutual decision"

Dan Disch will call the plays for the defense during the bowl game.

Fedora says the scheme will be the next DC's decision but DC needs to line up with his philosophy of having multiple fronts.

Big takeaway there is Fedora doesn't appear married to the 4-2-5. Sounds like a new DC can go in a different direction from that.

As noted by last night's Inside Carolina report, Fedora is already in the process of trying to hire Koenning's replacement. Based on his comments today, the next defensive coordinator may have more leeway to install something besides the 4-2-5 providing it matches up with Fedora's philosophy.
