Was Florida State lacking motivation against Houston? Did they not respect Houston? It doesn’t matter. I don’t buy those kind excuses when you lose a bowl. If you get beat you get beat.
Florida State flat got beat by the Houston Cougars today. Houston was better prepared, they executed better, and they were the better team in the Chick Fil A Bowl.
If you’re a FSU fan, it isn’t time to panic. The Noles recruit too well, and there is too much talent for much of a concern. They are only 1 game removed from blowing out SEC East champion Florida.
There are a couple of small concerns though. Dalvin Cook for the 2nd straight bowl game didn’t play well, and FSU was routed for the 2nd bowl game in a row. It does make you wonder a little bit about how Jimbo Fisher has prepared for these last two games.
Why hasn’t FSU been sharper these last 2 years in their bowl games?
The Noles should be very good next year though. Dalvin Cook returns, and there is talent across the board. If Sean Maguire is QB though, there is a ceiling with him. I don’t believe the Noles can win a national championship with Maguire behind center.
Some bowl wins and losses define where a program is headed in the future. I don’t think that is the case for Florida State. The Noles still went 10-3 and will finish in the top 15 in what was considered a rebuilding year. Houston just outplayed them Thursday.
