Ben DiNucci didn't have a great game on Saturday but he did enough to help Pitt's football team pull out a win against Duke. That was good enough for head coach Pat Narduzzi, who will stick with him as the starter for the Virginia contest.
The experimenting with true freshman Kenny Pickett seems to be over at this point. DiNucci's status as the starter was in question as recently as last week but despite a so-so game, he was never taken out of the Duke contest.
It's pretty clear that Narduzzi values ball security over the ability to make plays at this point. DiNucci made few plays n the game but did not turn the ball over against Duke and that was something that Narduzzi referenced a few times since the win. You also might remember that Narduzzi pointed that as a reason for playing Max Browne earlier in the year even as fans (then, anyway) wanted DiNucci to play.
I'm not sure what any of this means for Pickett's chances to play the rest of this season. Even if DiNucci doesn't play all that well, if he takes care of the ball, he might not be replaced. Time will tell.
