The sophomore averaged 24 PPG & 8 RPG on 77% shooting in two wins
John Collins received his first ever ACC Player of the Week award today from the Atlantic Coast Conference website. Collins, a sophomore out of West Palm Beach, Florida, averaged 24 points per game and 8 rebounds per game in back-to-back victories over Miami and N.C. State.
Collins began his week with a career-high 27 point effort against Miami, a game that the Demon Deacons won 96-79. He also chipped in seven rebounds to show he’s not a one trick pony.
He then helped lead Wake Forest to its first conference road win in three years with the 93-88 win over the Wolfpack in Raleigh. The 21 points and 9 rebounds came at the expense of a young, big, and foul-prone N.C. State front court.
Not only did Collins score 24 points over the two games, but he also shot an astounding 77% from the field (17-22), and also 93% from the foul line (14-15).
It appears that the ACC and rest of the country is realizing what most Wake Forest fans already knew—-Collins is a sensational sophomore and we are very lucky to have him as our big guy in the middle.
Congratulations John, on what is hopefully one of many ACC awards throughout your Wake Forest collegiate career.
