That’s our guy! Malcolm was up against Joel Embiid (who was borderline dominant but limited to 31 games by myriad injuries) and Dario Saric (who had marginally better counting stats), but the NBA’s voters used the stats we have available today to make the smart choice for what is a full season award. Brogdon is our second Rookie of the Year award winner-following Ralph Sampson-and is our first All-Rookie First Team member since Big Ralph as well.
Malcolm averaged 10.2 points per game this season, thanks to making efficient work of his chances: he shot better than 45% from the floor, 40% from behind the three-point line, and 85% from the line. He averaged 4.2 assists to just 1.5 turnovers, logged a double-double and a triple-double, and became a fixture in Milwaukee’s long and versatile starting lineup halfway through the year. Brogdon got better as he became more comfortable: he averaged 7.8 points in November, 9.1 in December, 11.1 in January, 11.7 in February, and 12.7 in March. He shot 47.6% from behind the three-point arc in the playoffs and scored in double figures twice in Milwaukee’s six game loss to Toronto.
He beat the Celtics:
He dunked on LeBron and Kyrie:
He dunked on Dwyane Wade:

and he dunked on Nerlens Noel.
He made us proud on and off the court, just like he always has. Congrats, Malcolm. I’m looking forward to many more years of explaining what’s happening on my shirt to people behind me in line at Lowe’s.
