The Terps won today but it didn't feel that great. Virginia came within a makeable FG attempt of beating Maryland in College Park. That would have been a disastrous end to the game and rivalry for that matter.
Box Score
What went right? Mostly, the offense played well. Rowe made some big throws and the Terps moved the ball on the ground. They had a TD called back on a penalty.
What went wrong? There were a couple of bad turnovers on special teams (two fumbles on punts!) which led to 6 Virginia points. More concerning was the play of the defense. Maryland could not get UVA off the field on 3rd down. The Cavaliers TE, McGee, looked like the second coming of Jimmy Graham as Maryland's secondary had no answers for him. UVA was able to run the ball as well. Any time you give up over 500 yards of offense to a terrible team like Virginia, we should all be concerned. For the record, UVA has the 110th ranked passing attack and 70th ranked rushing attack. Awful.
Now a road game at Wake Forest looms. A win and the Terps are 6-1 and bowl bound. A loss and the season could fall apart. CJ Brown will likely be back in action but he is not in position to help the porous defense. What will the coach staff do to fix the glaring problems?
