Learning to overcome....
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish played in their first game since the news of Rex Pflueger’s season-ending injury, and they looked like a team that was down a couple of players. The Binghamton Bearcats showed up to Purcell looking to play a ball game and to try and get the second upset over the Irish at home this season.
It was a very tight game early with the Irish falling behind right away, until about the halfway point in the first half when the Irish were finally able to get ahead of the Bearcats.
Binghamton actually outshot the Irish. In the first half, the Bearcats were shooting 40% to Notre Dame’s abysmal 29% — but the Irish were still able to go into the half up by 4. In the second half, the Irish were able to pull away by shooting 50% from the floor. T.J. Gibbs knocked in 13 of his 16 points in the second half while Juwan Durham kept pace with 11 of his 16.
The real difference in this game though... Notre Dame was 14-20 from the line and Binghamton was 0-2. That’s 14 points — and that’s the game. Captain John Mooney (Mr. John Mutton) added 12 points and matched Durham’s 12 rebounds with 12 of his own.
