When you start talking about heart issues, things quickly get real. For Notre Dame's Austin Burgett, it happened in the Irish' game against FSU this past week. Burgett experience what he called a "heavy chest" during the second half of the game. Burgett will have an outpatient procedure to correct the irregular heartbeat and will miss 7-10 days of action.
“I came out in the second half, I was going through warm-ups and it just felt kind of weird and my chest felt pretty heavy,” Burgett told reporters Thursday on a video posted at BlueandGold.com. “I was like OK, I’ll play, see how it feels. We went up or down once or twice and it just felt like my heart was about to come out of my chest.”
Burgett originally said he could delay any procedure to correct the issue until after the season, but opted to take care of it now. He could miss up to four games in his 10-day recovery time window.
If senior Tom Knight can't play as he recovers from penumonia, it would leave the Irish down to seven regular rotation players against Wake Forest and could force Mike Brey to play injury-plagued Eric Katenda, who has played in one minute of one game this season, or burn a planned redshit for freshman Austin Torres.
