In case the name doesn't ring a bell, Omar Sherman was the left-handed big man that seemed more comfortable floating around the 3 point line than banging down low. That said, he may have shown some growth in his game as the season progressed. He finished with 8 points and 5 rebounds in the NIT final against Stanford. That said, he's on the way out and StateOfTheU.com looks at how the Hurricanes roster will look without him.
First and foremost, Sherman was not going to start.
6'9 Brooklyn born, Oklahoma State transfer Kamari Murphy is going to be alongside Tonye Jekiri in the front court. The junior to be averaged 6 points and 6 boards 2 seasons ago for the Cowboys.
And that was with very few touches.
He might be the second best athlete on the team behind Sheldon McClellan, and he only took 4 three point attempts in two seasons in Stillwater.
He's a true 4.
Off the bench, Miami still has 6'10 senior Ivan Cruz Uceda. Uceda does not have the ideal athleticism, lateral movement, or defensive awareness coaches covet in a 4/5. But he can stroke it from deep, and his size allows him to collect a decent amount of rebounds. With some subtle improvement, he could be a solid rotation player this year. And he was likely pushing Sherman for minutes anyhow, given their skill sets were comparable.
