The positive COVID-19 test came from within the Pitt program, prompting the team to quarantine

Pitt’s matchup with Duke, which was set to tip off at 8 p.m. ET on Tuesday, has been postponed following a positive COVID-19 test within the Pitt program. The ACC first announced the news on Monday afternoon.
Following the positive test, members of the Pitt program quarantined and went through contact-tracing procedures. Pitt also noted in a statement that it is adhering to the COVID-19 protocols outlined by the ACC Medical Advisory Group.
The positive test is Pitt’s second to be announced in the last 10 days, as it was revealed on Dec. 19 that Panthers head coach Jeff Capel had tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, Capel sat out for the Pitt-Louisville matchup on Dec. 22. However, as of Monday, Capel had recovered and resumed his coaching duties with the team, as he spoke with the media hours before the positive test was announced and attended a team practice.
In addition to its recent coronavirus issues, Pitt is also dealing with injuries to its top two offensive contributors, as Justin Champagnie is out for several weeks with a knee injury and Au’Diese Toney is day-to-day with an ankle injury.
No new date and time for the Pitt-Duke game were announced with the postponement, so it is unclear when the matchup will eventually be played.
