Good News: The story is no longer that the Syracuse Orange are waiting for incoming freshman Tyler Roberson to receive clearance from the NCAA.
Bad News: It's is now Tyler Roberson AND Chinoso Obokoh who are still waiting to receive clearance from the NCAA before they can join the team.
Break the bad, Donna...
SU coach Jim Boeheim said today that Tyler Roberson, an acclaimed 6-foot-9 forward out of Union, N.J. and Roselle Catholic High School, and Chinonso Obokoh, a 6-foot-10 center out of Rochester's Bishop Kearney High School, have yet to be released by the NCAA Clearinghouse.
"I don't know if they'll be cleared in time to go on this trip," Boeheim said.
I always get confused when I hear the term "NCAA Clearinghouse." Makes me think they just need to sign up for more magazines and then they'll be let in.
Boeheim later notes that "They should [ultimately] clear," so that's...comforting? Also, it just feels a little later because of this Canada trip. This probably isn't much later than usual, it's just that the season is kinda starting earlier.
It would be a shame for either guy, let alone both, to miss the exhibition slate. All of it is essential practice time and game experience for a team loaded with freshmen and youngens.
