The three biggest ACC football questions of the week. Here we go for Week 5.
How can Louisville upset Notre Dame?
It’s a shame that arguably one of Notre Dame’s 3 biggest games of the year is on Peacock rather than national TV. Louisville and Notre Dame are set for a top 20 matchup that could start Louisville’s playoff chase, and end Notre Dames. How can Louisville do it? They do it the same way they did last year and the same way Northern Illinois. You turn whoever is playing QB at Notre Dame over. Last year the Cards had 3 interceptions against Irish QB Sam Hartman. This year NIU had a couple of interceptions against current Irish QB Riley Leonard. Leonard doesn’t have another interception this year in another game. I like the Cards defense. They can be very disruptive. Georgia Tech was a good test, but the Irish are a different animal. I do think Louisville can get this game in the 4th quarter.
Is UNC about to go into freefall?
UNC’s performance was so disastrous against James Madison that it set off alarms everywhere. Sometimes you can look at a bad game and say well maybe it was a one-time thing. Sometimes it’s so bad, that you wonder how can things be fixed. UNC has a very dangerous game with arch-rival Duke in Durham. The Blue Devils are 4-0 and are poised to sink the Heels season. After Duke, the Heels host 4-0 Pittsburgh and a capable Georgia Tech team. Yep if Duke beats UNC, it could be a freefall for the Heels.
Is SMU’s season about to take off?
If UNC is in danger of a freefall, SMU might be ready to have their season take off. There were some uneven performances early in the year. They played poorly barely beating Nevada. They almost defeated BYU, but there was a mess at QB. In their last game though SMU played their best game of the season dropping 66 points and 238 yards on the ground on TCU. Now they get FSU coming off a win, but still struggling on offense. This is SMU’s first ACC game, and it’s at home in prime time. A win sends SMU to 4-1 and sets up a big game with Louisville. The Mustangs if they win, could have a lot of people thinking they could go 9-3 maybe even 10-2. It would also validate the TCU win. I like their chances.
