The FSU Men’s basketball team got off to a fast start on Wednesday night when Deividas Dulkys jumped out of the gate scoring 9 points in the first two minutes of the game. Unfortunately, that would be about as hot as the Seminoles would be in College Park Maryland. The Seminoles struggled to keep up with Maryland’s offensive pace after closing the first half down only one, 38-37. In the second half FSU would be outscored 40 to 25, making the final score Maryland 78, FSU 62.
Florida State had difficulty answering Maryland’s zone defense and scoring consistently on offense. Overall, they played an average defensive game but were unable to remain competitive down the stretch due to untimely turnovers and breakdowns defensively. The Terrapins shot a scorching 50% from behind the arch. The win for Maryland moved them up to 7-6 in conference play while FSU slides to 9-4 and will have to take a second shot at ACC win #10 when they face off against Miami at home on Saturday.
In the preview, we mentioned the encouraging play of Okaro White, Bernard James and Ian Miller in this past Saturday’s game against Wake Forest in which the three first year players combined for 42 points. Unfortunately on Wednesday night, the three would drop 7 total. Derwin Kitchen and Deividas Dulkys would be the only Noles to score in double digits Wednesday with 16 and 14 points respectively. The Seminoles will have more opportunities to show how they fair without Chris Singleton in the lineup, but Seminole fans will be hoping they will be closer to game one sans Singleton, as opposed to game two. Tip off for Saturday’s game is at 2:00 p.m
