Tar Heels’ 2017 NCAA championship banner will be unveiled at Late Night with Roy.
The North Carolina Tar Heels basketball program is set to unveil its 2017 NCAA Tournament championship banner at Late Night with Roy.
The news was first reported on Thursday afternoon by Inside Carolina, whose sources confirm that the unveiling will take place during the annual event in the Dean Smith Center on Friday, October 13th.
Late Night with Roy is an event that has been taking place at North Carolina since the Hall-of-Fame coach returned to his alma mater in 2003.
It’s considered by many to be the unofficial start of college basketball season in Chapel Hill. It also marks an important night both for the fans’ enjoyment, and for the team to recruit high school prospects.
North Carolina players and coaches will be involved in singing, dancing and skits in front of a crowd interested in seeing the teams’ new faces and anxiously awaiting the start of basketball season.
For the main event, fans will get to watch an intrasquad scrimmage involving the entire North Carolina roster.
After a mass exodus of upperclassman, fans will get their first glimpse of the Tar Heels’ incoming freshman class that includes five-star combo guard Jalek Felton, sharpshooter Andrew Platek, and big men Garrison Brooks, Sterling Manley and Brandon Huffman.
It’ll also be the first time UNC fans get a look at highly anticipated Pittsburgh graduate transfer Cameron Johnson. Johnson, who battled his former school for a full release, has two remaining years of college eligibility.
This event is free to the public and concessions will be available for purchase inside the arena. A time has not yet been set for the event.
