Syracuse finished playing Virginia less than 24 hours ago

The ACC announced this morning that the Virginia-Georgia Tech semifinal game in the ACC tournament has been cancelled. This follows a positive COVID-19 test within the Virginia program.

As many of you are aware, Syracuse recently played Virginia less than 24 hours ago in a quarterfinals loss. The Orange have shut down their program before due to a positive test from a team they’ve recently played. Buffalo had a positive test in their program shortly after their game against Syracuse in December and the Orange subsequently didn’t play for 18 days.
It’s important to note that a positive test within the Virginia program doesn’t mean that Syracuse will have to pause and quarantine (ending their season). The ACC has tracking chips in player jerseys and staff has been wearing devices to track how close they were to other individuals.
Trying to get more details on the process, but since Syracuse just played Virginia, contact tracing will occur with a fine-tooth comb. The players have chips in their jerseys, staff have devices, that can time the exposure they’ve had to others.

This isn’t the first program that has been shut down in the ACC tournament this year. Duke’s program had a positive test yesterday and was forced to shut down, cancelling their quarterfinal match with Florida State yesterday. The ACC tournament will continue with Georgia Tech moving to the finals to play the winner of Florida State-North Carolina.
