Dave Clawson continues to assemble his new coaching staff at Wake Forest. Find out how Kevin Higgins will fit in on this staff.
According to a report by coachingsearch.com, former head football coach at The Citadel, Kevin Higgins will become Wake Forest's new wide receiver coach and assistant head coach. He will work with offensive coordinator Warren Ruggiero among others to improve Wake Forest's offense, which finished 120th in total offense this past season.
Coach Higgins was the head coach at The Citadel for nine seasons and was named Southern Conference Coach of the Year in 2012. Prior to working at The Citdel, Higgins was the quarterbacks and wide receivers coach of the Detroit Lions from 2001 to 2004.
Interestingly enough, current head coach Dave Clawson was actually an assistant under Higgins while at Lehigh. Higgins was the head coach of Lehigh from 1994-2000 and Clawson served as a running backs coach and offensive coordinator from 1993-1995.
In his initial press conference Dave Clawson said that the coaches he hires was the most important part of the transition and by all accounts he has made great decisions with each hire thus far. Next year's Wake Forest team will feature feature three sophomores at wide receiver in Jared Crump, Jonathan Williams and Tyree Harris. Those three players have a lot of talent and I believe Coach Higgins can develop them into an excellent trio moving forward.
