Notre Dame controlled the game throughout, dropping the Seminoles 84-72.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish took down the Florida State Seminoles Saturday evening in a well played game for the Irish. This was one of, if not the best, the best games Notre Dame has payed this season. They were in control all the way throughout the game. The whole second half Florida State tried to creep back but solid play from the Irish kept the lead in double digits. This is what we learned.
Bonzie Is On A Roll
Bonzie Colson is playing the best basketball of his career. On Saturday he scored a career high 33 points and also came down with 13 rebounds. This is the highest scoring game any Notre Dame player has ever had in an ACC contest. Oh, and he also scored his 1,000th career point in the process. Just a normal day in the office for Bonzie. The previous game against Wake Forest, Colson had 27 points and 16 rebounds. His game is peaking at the perfect time for a late season surge.
Irish Went Back To Winning Ways
During the four game losing streak Notre Dame was missing free throws and turning over the ball at a much higher rate. This changed for the better against Florida State. The Irish finished 19-21 from the foul line. Being an undersized team, this is how Notre Dame wins games. And as far as taking care of the ball, Matt Farrell had been getting a little sloppy lately. He finished the Florida State game with 9 assists and 3 turnovers. A 3-1 assist to turnover ratio from the junior point guard would go a long way if Notre Dame wants to get back to the top of the ACC.
Steve Vasturia Can Dunk
I know I was not expecting to see this, but late in the game Steve Vasturia went up and actually dunked the basketball! Twitter went nuts. I think I saw six different tweets all asking the same thing. “Since when can Steve Vasturia Dunk?!” Here’s a picture in case you don’t believe it actually happened.
Notre Dame is now 19-7 overall and 8-5 in ACC play. This puts them in 6th place in the conference with only five games left. The Irish will be on the road for both games this week. They play at Boston College on Tuesday and at North Carolina State on Saturday. Both are winnable games but winning on the road is never easy.
