The offense wasn’t good, nor was the defense.
The Syracuse Orange (4-1) took on the Wisconsin Badgers (5-2) in Madison as part of the ACC/Big 10 challenge tonight and got beat in every facet of the game. Wisconsin moved the ball tremendously well and Syracuse struggled to score, eventually falling 77-60.
Wisconsin started off red hot from three, raining in its five-of-seven from downtown. Syracuse climbed back into the contest with some hot shooting of its own, largely thanks to Andrew White knocking down four from range in the first half. After being down as many as 14 in the first half, the Orange was able to close the gap 43-39 by the intermission.
Wisconsin started the second half much like the first and quickly extended the lead to 16. From then Syracuse never got the game back within single digits. Credit Wisconsin for its ball movement, but the Syracuse defense looked deplorable all night giving up wide open threes.
White was held scoreless in the second half and finished the night with 14. John Gillon added 10 points off the bench and Tyler Lydon added 9. If there were a bright spot, DaJuan Coleman scored 12 points on five-of-seven from the floor.
Wisconsin out-rebounded Syracuse 40-25 and assisted on 21 of its 29 field goals. The Badgers shot 49.2 percent from the floor and 47.8 percent from downtown.
Syracuse now moves to 4-2 on the season. The Orange will lick its wounds and head home to host North Florida on Saturday. That game tips at 4 pm from the Carrier Dome.
