Let’s take a quick look at the Cardinals heading into the season, as we look at last year’s results and what they will have coming into 2016.
TEAM: Louisville Cardinals
Head Coach: Bobby Petrino
2015 Record: 8-5
Last Game: Defeated Texas A&M in the Music City Bowl, 27-21
2015 Stats:
Passing: 245 yards per game (Lamar Jackson: 1,840 passing yards)
Rushing: 171 yards per game (Lamar Jackson: 960 rushing yards)
Points Scored: 28.7/ Points Allowed: 24.1
2016 Outlook
The Louisville Cardinals look to return most of their team from last season, a team that finished strong with an 8-5 record and a win in the Music City Bowl.
Quarterback Lamar Jackson looks to lead the way both with his arm and legs, especially the way he scored seven touchdown in the spring game just last month. Brandon Radcliff will lead the way in the backfield, while a mixture of seniors and sophomores will make up the weapons along the outside.
On offense overall, Louisville returns 10 starters and several others that gained experience last year.
Defensively, they lost a some big players including Sheldon Rankins, but return nine from last year’s team that started, including Devonte Fields at defensive end and Keith Kelsey at linebacker. Last season, the Cardinals started off slow, going 1-3 in their first four before finishing the season with a 7-2 record.
This certainly is a team that could start in the Top 25 and finish there with the young talent Petrino has, but they will want to start the season off better than they did last year.
