GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke senior Quinn Cook has been chosen as the Atlantic Coast Conference Basketball Player of the Week by a select media panel, while Wake Forest’s Konstantinos Mitoglou was recognized as the ACC Rookie of the Week.
The weekly honors are the first of the season for each player.
Cook averaged 21.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game as Duke improved to 22-3 on the year with road wins over Florida State and Syracuse. The Washington, D.C., native played all 40 minutes in both games and shot .480 percent from the field and .867 percent from the free throw line. Cook opened the week with a season-high 26 points and four rebounds in the 73-70 win at Florida State. He was 8-of-15 from the field, including 4-of-9 from 3-point range, and 6-of-7 from the foul line. Cook helped Duke overcome an 11-point first-half deficit in Saturday’s 80-72 win at Syracuse. He knocked down a pair of 3-point field goals and was 7-of-8 from the foul line en route to a 17-point night. Cook also had three rebounds, five assists and two steals in the contest.
Mitoglou averaged 19.5 points and 5.5 rebounds while shooting 63 percent (12-for-19) from 3-point range in Wake Forest’s two games last week. In Wednesday’s 72-70 win over Miami, Mitoglou scored 21 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including 6-for-7 from 3-point range. The Thessaloniki, Greece, native also pulled down a team-best eight rebounds, including four offensive, on the night. In Saturday’s 61-60 loss at No. 3-ranked Virginia, Mitoglou once again led the team with 18 points. He was 6-for-14 from the field and 6-for-12 from 3-point range. His 3-pointer with 40 seconds remaining in the game cut the Virginia lead to one. Mitoglou added three rebounds and two assists in 34 minutes of action. On the season, Mitoglou is averaging 9.9 points and 4.7 rebounds per game while shooting 40 percent from 3-point range. He is 21-for-36 (58 percent) from 3-point range in the past five games.
