There's nothing like waking up to college hoops. Today marks ESPN's annual Tip-Off Marathon, so make sure to check that out if you're around a TV today. In ACC action, the big news last night was Miami's 2 point win at Florida. Angel Rodriguez gave me a reason to quote Sarah McLachlan lyrics (ie. In the Arms of an Angel) as he made a go-ahead 3 with 15 seconds left which proved to be the game winner.
Whatever good mojo Miami's win at Florida gave me, in a matter of minutes Clemson killed it as they were 77-74 losers to Winthrop at home. You have to give Winthrop credit, they took care of the ball (TO%: 8) and made their free throws (FT% 80). Those just happen to be two things Clemson wasn't able to do. Clemson's 23-39 (59%) free throw shooting is an easy factor that could have changed the game for the Tigers.
Elsewhere in the ACC, NC State bent but didn't break in their 76-64 win over Hofstra. Ralston Turner had the big game for the Pack with 24, making 5 three pointers. Louisville blasted Jacksonville State 88-39 behind a balanced scoring attack that saw 5 players in double-figures. Wake picked up a 71-49 win at Tulane, which is the first sign that Danny Manning has turned around the culture at Wake. This tweet from Kenny Beck should further illustrate that point.
Wake Forest basketball, which was 6-38 in road games the previous four years under Jeff Bzdelik, wins Danny Manning's road opener by 22!

Tonight, the big matchup is Duke taking on Michigan State as part of the Champions Classic. That game will be followed by Kentucky/Kansas. Also in action, Virginia hosts South Carolina State and Georgia Tech hosts Alabama A&M.
