That was an eventful Sunday. The ACC won 5 of it's 7 games on Sunday by double-figures, but those 2 other games were tough. NC State played Wofford and Syracuse took on Louisiana Tech. Coming into the matchups, Pomeroy had both opponents as top 100 teams, while Game Sim had Wofford top 100 and Louisiana Tech around 150. In other words, these opponents were solid competition, but the ACC should have been victorious in both.
Let's start with the good news as Syracuse managed to hold on to beat Louisiana Tech 71-69. Rakeem Christmas made a baby hook shot in the final seconds to give the Orange the win. Trevor Cooney seems to have found his shooting touch, finishing with a team-high 25 points. Syracuse was unable to take care of the ball which kept Louisiana Tech close. The Orange turned it over on 25% of possessions resulting in 24 points off turnovers for Louisiana Tech.
NC State's game against Wofford didn't turn out as well. The Wolfpack were greeted by Karl Hess, a referee that hadn't been seen in Raleigh officiating games since he threw out Chris Corchiana and Tom Gugliotta over 2 1/2 years ago. Just 4 minutes in, Hess had assessed Mark Gottfried a technical. A technical that NC State AD Debbie Yow will request more information on. That same technical ultimately was the difference in the game. Of course, it didn't look like that at first as Trevor Lacey knocked down an apparent game-winner at the buzzer. While replays showed the ball out of Lacey's hand with 0.1 secs on the clock, the red light around the backboard had already turned on prior to the ball leaving his hand. As such, the basket was ruled no good. Check out the replays below.
In other news on Sunday, Duke's Semi Ojeleye has announced his intentions to transfer. Check out this article for more.
