Virginia takes on No. 1 Villanova to highlight a full schedule in the ACC this weekend. Four ranked teams will be in action, three of which are hoping to bounce back from a loss and avoiding a two-game losing streak on Saturday.
The Cavs matchup against Nova on Sunday, along with two other games, as All Things ACC gives you the weekend preview in the conference.
Saturday
#14 Notre Dame at Georgia Tech
Georgia Tech has found success at home against ranked opponents and welcomes in another this weekend. Can they continue to impress and continue to prove doubters wrong with another Top 25 win? Notre Dame has lost two out of their last three, both against ranked opponents. The Irish hope their offense can get back on track after a 54-point outing against Virginia.
Clemson at Pittsburgh
Two bottom feeders in the ACC but there might not be a more confusing team than Pittsburgh. With two players leading the league in scoring, one wouldn’t think they would lose by 55 points. That is what will be in the back of their mind and questions around Kevin Stallings could continue. Clemson has been close so many times this season, it could be their due to get a win.
#6 Florida State at Syracuse
FSU got smacked against the Yellow Jackets, a tape that they probably threw out. This still is a team that can compete for the conference and make a deep run in the NCAA. Syracuse is going to have to start earning some resume type wins or they won’t be in the tournament discussion at all.
#9 North Carolina at Miami
UNC is looking like the top team right now but have a quick turnaround after defeating the Hokies at home Thursday. The offense continues to click for the Tar Heels but the same can’t be said lately about the Hurricanes. They were once one of the top defensive teams, but have given up 96, 70, 78 points in their last three, way above their average (62.7).
#17 Duke at Wake Forest
The whole story will be around Duke and if they can bounce back from losing three of their last four games. Time will tell but if they lose on the road, where they are 0-3 already this season, you might see this national championship caliber team start sinking for good.
Sunday
#12 Virginia at #1 Villanova
Virginia has quietly been bouncing back and getting back to form, especially after their impressive win against Notre Dame. Now they face one of their toughest tests against a Villanova team that is coming off their second loss of the season. If UVA can win, they could take a big leap in the national discussion.
NC State at #13 Louisville
Two teams that are riding high after their last victories. Louisville throttling Pittsburgh and the Wolfpack ending their losing streak in Cameron Indoor. Both teams should be high on emotion, but will one of these teams lay an egg?
Boston College at Virginia Tech
The Eagles have lost four straight but have been very competitive and nearly secured wins in their last two matchups, one being against UNC. With the duo of Robinson and Bowman, Boston College hasn’t been a runover like in past years. Virginia Tech has played well at home and after their 19 points loss at UNC, they hope to get back on track. Guard play will be big in this game.
