27 - 24 Northern Illinois vs. Boston College: The NIU Huskies opened the 2023 season with a hard-fought overtime win over the Boston College Eagles, 27-24. It was a defensive battle throughout most of the game, and in overtime Rocky Lombardi answered Liam Connor's field goal with a 1-yard rushing score to secure the win for the Huskies. Earlier in the game, Thomas Castellanos was brought into the game and immediately provided a spark. Castellanos moved the ball with his arm and his legs, finishing with 205 total yards in the game with 2 passing touchdowns to go along with a rushing score as well.
