The Cards landed a big time commitment seemingly out of nowhere.
The last week has been quite an unexpected whirlwind for the Louisville basketball program. It started when it was reported that Brian Bowen, a composite 5-star SF from La Porte, IN., was taking an unofficial visit with his parents to U of L’s campus. A day later, it was discovered that Bowen had enrolled for summer courses at Louisville, making it almost certain that Pitino was going to land a highly-regarded recruit.
Well, it’s all official now as Bowen announced via Twitter that he’ll be coming to the Ville.

This is a big commitment for Pitino to secure, especially this late in the recruiting process for the 2017 class. Pitino made remarks earlier this offseason that they would not add another player to the roster if Deng Adel were to return for his junior season. He made these remarks a week before graduate transfer Mark Alstork came in for a visit, but ultimately ended up at Illinois.
Bowen will be a big boost and add some depth to the roster. Pitino mentioned that he would like to move Adel to the guard spot opposite of Snider after the departure of star guard Donovan Mitchell, while having sophomore V.J. King start at the small forward position. Bowen should be able to come in and compete for playing time right away.
Welcome to the Cards, Brian!
