As the offseason for the Blue Devils rolls on Jon Scheyer and company have picked up another piece of their 2024 season with the addition of Purdue transfer Mason Gillis. Gillis a 6’6, combo forward will be a 5th year senior for the Blue Devils, who despite signing 6 freshmen for this years squad have endeavored to try to get older where they can. The addition of Gillis was part of that process, he joins Maliq Brown as new additions from the Portal for Jon Scheyer.
Gillis, along with his age and finals experience, brings with him a skillet the Blue Devils will sorely need – a steady scoring punch and a player that can play as a small forward or a big guard if need be. His versatility and shot-making ability from beyond the arc will be sorely needed on a team that lost Jared McCain to the NBA. Gillis earned Sixth Man of the Year accolades in the Big Ten after pairing 6.5 points and 3.9 rebounds with 46.8% shooting from 3.
