The preseason All-ACC team has been released with four Tar Heels, two on each side of the ball, making the cut.
Eric Ebron was an overwhelming choice as the leagues top tight end. Ebron, touted by his coach Larry Fedora as one of the best TEs in the country, received 35 of 65 votes. Ebron's inclusion was not a surprise and neither was that of OT James Hurst who will anchor UNC's offensive line this season.
On the defensive side of the ball two Tar Heel seniors got the nod. Defensive end Kareem Martin and safety Tre Boston were both named. Martin is poised to have a huge season while Boston continues to be an interesting choice given how poorly he played at times in 2012. My guess is Boston leading the team in tackles and having four interceptions is enough for media members to select him on the team. Also, voting for football accolades can be very difficult at some positions. Unless there is someone who has stood out in a memorable way, stats and name recognition are the default method for voting.
The only other Tar Heel to receive All-ACC votes was QB Bryn Renner who got two but is solidly buried(along with a couple of other quality quarterbacks) behind preseason player of the year favorite Tajh Boyd of Clemson.
