A GOOD SPORTS THING HAPPENED FOR LOUISVILLE!!!

Blanton Creque’s field goal with just five seconds to play lifted Louisville to a 31-28 win over Florida State Saturday afternoon at Doak Campbell Stadium. The win was U of L’s first in Tallahassee since Johnny Unitas led the Cardinals to a 41-14 victory in 1952.

After drawing criticism in recent weeks for being too pass-happy, Louisville’s offense took a more run-centered approach against FSU. The Cards threw the ball just 21 times while racking up 293 yards on 44 attempts on the ground. Lamar Jackson led the attack, carrying 23 times for 178 yards and a score. He chipped in 156 yards and another score through the air.

Louisville’s defense also gave arguably its best performance of the season, forcing three turnovers and “holding” Florida State to 403 yards of total offense.

On one hand, Louisville seemed to have the game in control before a ridiculous roughing the passer call and an FSU fumble recovery in the endzone completely flipped things in the 4th quarter. On the other, the Seminoles seemed destined to score the game’s final points before an unforced James Blackmon fumble gave U of L the opportunity to do so.

Look this game was anything but an ESPN classic, but winning in Tallahassee and putting together a two-game winning streak is the type of pick-me-up this program desperately needed.

The national reaction to this game is going to be all about Florida State, but major props to the guys in red and white for picking themselves up after what happened in their last two games. They could have easily packed it in for the rest of the season, but they didn’t. That’s applaudable.
