Big Game Brohm Strikes Again

I don’t want to elaborate and write 1500 words about something so seemingly ridiculous and embarrassing, but here we are.
Once again Jeff Brohm wins a massive game and immediately falls flat on his face the following game.
I really thought that this was the limit. Brohm losing to a testy Pitt team last year was beyond disappointing, but you could make some excuses for it. Brohm losing at Purdue following massive wins against Ohio State and immediately losing to Michigan State, then in 2021 defeating #2 Iowa 24-7 only to lose to Wisconsin 30-13. Then in 2023 we saw Louisville fall to last-place Pitt following a massive victory over Notre Dame, and in 2024 we thought that Stanford would be the easiest win following a big victory against Clemson on the road. But instead of tasting an easy victory, the Cards fell short against the Cardinal, 38-35.
I can’t believe Brohm actually did it. I really thought this was the easiest win of the season since the Jacksonville State game. But the team made enough mistakes to lose what should have been a lay-up against the worst team in the conference.
We should have put them away multiple times, especially in the second half where it looked like UofL had stepped up and put its superior foot down. But the the defense, which had stepped up the last few weeks, seemingly appeared to let the poor Stanford offense back in the game again and again.
We could break down every scenario in which Stanford came back and broke through, but really it was the 4th quarter in which we saw near-T.Y. Hilton and Zay Flowers performances from Emmett Mosley, who ended up with 13 receptions for me 168 yards and 3 touchdowns. We’ve seen one-man shows from opposing receivers before, and this game was no different.
If there’s any silver lining it’s that Pitt choked away what should have been a sure-thing win over Clemson. Had Pitt won that game, Louisville would have been in the driver’s seat and this loss would have been even worse. In a way, it’s better to lose this massive upset after Pitt lost to Clemson, than a Pitt win where this would have been a must win. Losing here is massively embarrassing, but it could have been much worse.
Louisville had a clear path to 9-3 with a win over UK and Clemson, which i think most fans would have found a successful season. But now the ceiling is 8-4 with a win over UK, which isn’t great, but if you lose to UK then the noise from UofL fans will be deafening. Losing to Stanford was a ridiculous scenario, but here we are. For any remote success in Brohm’s year 2, you have to beat Pitt and UK. Anything short of that will be a disappointment, and that’s all on Brohm’s shoulders. The fact he keeps losing after big wins is mind-boggling and needs to be fixed ASAP.
Beat Pitt?
