The NCAA has denied the QB's extension of eligibility waiver, ending his collegiate career.
Syracuse University Athletics has announced that the extension of eligibility waiver submitted on Terrel Hunt's behalf for a sixth season has been denied by the NCAA. With the denial of the waiver comes the end of Hunt's collegiate career.
Hunt tore his Achillies in the very first game of the 2015 season, the second major injury of his career. He headed into both the 2014 and 2015 seasons as the starter but didn't make it out of either healthy.
Terrel played in 19 games for the Syracuse Orange, amassing over 2,600 passing yards, good for tenth on the school's career passing yards list.
The signature win of Hunt's career came in the 2013 Texas Bowl in which he was awarded the game's most valuable player. In that game, Hunt had 19 completions on 29 passing attempts and 188 yards, along with 74 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns, including the game winning TD with 1:14 remaining in the game.
Hunt is also tied for the school record for most rushing yards in a game by a quarterback, gaining 156 yards on the ground in 2014 versus Maryland. Hunt accounted for 24 touchdowns, 11 passing and 13 rushing, in his Syracuse career. He will be honored with the rest of senior class before Saturday's game against Boston College.
The QB released a statement via Cuse.com.
"Obviously, it's very disappointing but I want to thank my teammates, coaches and all the Syracuse fans who have supported me through this process and during my time here," Hunt said. "Even though my career didn't turn how I thought it would, I still have a lot of great memories that I'll take with me for the rest of my life.
"Right now I'm focused on my rehab and on finishing graduate school. I'm getting better every day and hopefully I'll have the opportunity to continue my career at the professional level."
We wish Terrel the best in whatever comes next.
